Electrical panel upgrading refers to a replacement of the electric panel – the heart of your home for all things electrical. It is usually located in the garage, basement, or a utility room. When you open the door to your electrical panel, you’ll see rows of circuit breakers that control or cut-off electricity to certain circuits in the home.

As technology progresses and the electrical demands of homes increase, there is an increased need for electrical panel upgrades for homeowners. Some signs of needing an electrical panel upgrade are:

• Your panel and home are older than 25 years old- most homes now need a 200-amp panel
• You experience frequently tripped breakers
• You need/want to install more outlets such as EV chargers, new appliances, or more outlets
• You hear strange noises coming from the panel
• You smell burning material or see smoke- if you see smoke evacuate your home and call 911
• You notice lights flickering when you turn on certain devices
• Your home has a recalled panel installed- Zinsco, Federal Pacific, I-T-E Pushmatic, or GTE/Sylvania brand; these panels should be upgraded as soon as possible
